What being an Advocate means

As a Lactation Friendly Workplace Advocate, you:

  • Will support businesses through the process of obtaining Lactation Friendly Workplace Recognition.
  • Are responsible for outreaching and connecting with workplaces of your choice
  • Will serve as the primary point of contact when employers have questions or need assistance as they work through the process.

You will also have the option to join an Advocate Contact List, to be connected with businesses that request support from the coalition.

Who would make a good Advocate?

While anyone who is interested can complete the advocate training, some individuals may work in a role where this can be easily integrated.

Examples include:

  • Wellness consultants
  • Local coalition members across the state
  • Parents
  • Volunteers with a passion for breast/chestfeeding support
  • Workplace wellness committee members
  • Employees who would like to support their organization in understanding what it means to become a Lactation Friendly Workplace

How to become an Advocate

To become an advocate, you must be 18 years of age or older and have experience with or an interest in working in breastfeeding advocacy.

To begin the process of becoming an advocate, you will need to complete a training module and review relevant information and materials online. You will then be able to begin volunteering your time as an advocate.

You can also add your name to the contact list maintained by COBFC, if you would like to be connected with businesses who may request assistance.
